Cost of my deviated septum surgery
The documentation provided with the insurance referral request for my deviated septum surgery was sufficient to provide a method to research the actual costs, at least partially, of these surgical procedures. I've learned to date that the information I have located really only addresses the
cost of the surgeon himself, and the follow up post operative visits. I'm afraid I will have to learn quite a bit more to determine the outpatient hospitalization costs. This would include the anesthesiologist, surgical assistants, operating room, preparation, and recovery areas, and
other medications, surgical gown etc.
The cost for the surgeon can at least be somewhat determined by using the CPT codes for the surgeries involved. What the heck is a CPT code? It's the key to the secret world of surgery cost! Please see:
My cost of surgery to learn more about CPT codes.
Deviated Septum Surgery CPT codes
I've taken the codes from my surgeons referral request and using the procedure described in the "My cost of surgery" page determined the cost of the surgeon for all the various procedure performed for my surgery. Please remember that this
doesn't include many things as far as I can tell. You will see totals for the surgery costs that were covered by insurance, and below additional procedures, mainly for snoring abatement, that were not covered by insurance. When the surgery was done I was charged about $1800 for these
additional snoring procedures which of course covered all post operative expenditures.

So all the above procedures were performed but I still have no idea, YET, of all the other additional surgery and hospital charges involved. | |
