Do It Yourself easy to build Hammock Stand

A low cost, economical too, do it yourself wooden hammock stand with some unique features.  This easy to build hammock stand will fold up!  Once you build this hammock stand you can hide it away off season.  Also rather than having a heavy support run directly under you, this homemade hammock stand has an offset frame structure.  If your hammock ever fails you'll fall on the grass not the wooden hammock frame!

Unfortunately this wood Hammock Frame may not be light enough to fold away and carry to the beach!  I'll let you know when I complete this "How To".  I hope to complete a couple hammock stands of varying designs and sizes with done.  Starting with what I call the mini-beach hammock stand using a low cost 10 foot hammock; one you can buy for $10.

The problem with building your own hammock stand from plans is the basic hardware you need to build it really can add up!  You need bolts, nuts, washers, eyebolts, perhaps lag screws, and you should probably use pressure treated lumber.  You may be able to build a stand using steel, but avoiding welding can be difficult.  Make sure any lumber you choose is relatively knot free.  Knots in the wood, especially the uprights, can easily lead to an unexpected failure of your hammock stand.

I apologize if you have found this page before I do complete the design, it may be too late for this season, at least here in North Eastern Pennsylvania.  Of course South America is just warming up.
